the magic of Jaclyn

Jaclyn Williamson
2011, B.F.A., graduate of
UNT Communication Design: Graphic Design
March 31, 1988–July 29, 2022

Jaclyn enjoyed a successful design career and exuded vivacity in her life.

Starting as an intern at Caliber Creative, Jaclyn moved through Fossil Group’s headquarters and Squires & Company, in Richardson, Texas, before working in-house for nearly eight years at OneSource Virtual as their creative brand manager. Known among her co-workers and peers as “the rag queen,” she had a passion for setting typography, a stellar eye for the perfect color palette, and was a true lover of print and all things paper.

An avid traveler with a natural curiosity about the world, Jaclyn spent time in Portugal, Spain, South Africa, the United Kingdom and numerous countries in Eastern Europe, all while working remotely and leading a creative team.

Endearingly sincere, kind-hearted, and wittier than she knew, Jaclyn had a natural ability to connect with people, making countless genuine, deep and lasting friendships. Her knack for a well-timed joke or self-effacing story made her a joy to be around professionally and personally; her consideration and care for others knew no bounds.

Through the Jaclyn Williamson Design Scholarship created by her parents, Sarah and Kenneth Williamson, in memory of their daughter, Jaclyn’s legacy lives on — allowing her to continue to take new designers under her wing as they grow and strengthen their skills.

Tributes from friends

I’m so thankful I had the privilege of having Jaclyn in Communication Design classes in our program at CVAD. She was a wonderfully talented student who always brought her A game, loved the making process, wasn’t afraid of taking chances and always did so with her charming, self-effacing, slightly neurotic sense of humor we all came to know and adore. Jaclyn had such a lovely, kind, compassionate heart she shared without reservation with everyone in her orbit — it was her super power. She also possessed a highly developed, and often humorously animated appreciation for a wide range of design aesthetics and their applications — color, illustration, layout, typography, etc., but she really had a thing for paper. I recall she would be so enthralled with her paper selections after a trip to Clampitt, she would sometimes physically pet the samples as she was presenting a project in class — that was Jaclyn.

After graduating from our program she was so thoughtful to keep in touch by arranging brunch meetups to catch me up on the fun stuff happening in her life, like a budding new relationship, or an exciting design project in progress, or to share about places she’d recently traveled. Her passion for life and design was infectious. It’s still difficult to grasp she’s no longer with us and I will always remember her with immense fondness. Her loving, beautiful spirit will live on through her scholarship so generously gifted by her parents and in the hearts of all who loved her.

Jaclyn taught all of us patience, mostly because she was the biggest procrastinator in the world and if we didn’t have patience, it wasn’t happening. That patience always was rewarded with something absolutely perfect and beautiful. Her talent was endless and extraordinary, her compassion for others was inspiring, her kindness was genuine. Those people are so hard to find, and that’s why I think everyone held on to Jaclyn so closely.

Jaclyn Williamson, I’ve never met anyone who had the capacity to love so many people (though it's no surprise that so many loved you).

You knew the power of a well-timed dolphin noise or whale joke to break the tension. You’d do anything for your friends, and raised your hand for everything (leaving no birthday, baby shower or wedding untouched, undecorated or undesigned). You were brave and took chances. You were the queen of awkward (and hilarious) situations. You had the kindest soul and the sharpest wit. You told the best stories. Until we can hold hands and dance around to Careless Whisper again,
I love you.

Words cannot adequately describe the light that emanated from this beautiful creature. She was so genuine and gentle. She made everyone she knew feel that they were the most special person in the world.
The hole she leaves behind will never be filled.
